Masai Mara

Located in the south-west corner of Kenya, the Masai Mara National Reserve is one of the most famous wildlife parks in Africa.
The Masai Mara is famous for the annual migration of zebra and wildebeest from the Serengeti in Tanzania, when hundreds of thousands of wildebeest, under the guidance of the zebras, move from one park to the other. It is also well known for its cheetah, leopard and lion populations. As well as game drives and a visit to a local Maasai village, you’ll stay on the beautiful Mara river at one of the community-owned lodges located on the edge of the reserve. As you relax by your luxury tent, you’ll get to watch hippos, elephants, antelope and hyena stroll along the river’s edge as they go about their daily business. You might not want to blink in case you miss something!

Known as one of the finest wildlife destinations in the world, the rolling hills and iconic plains of the ‘Mara’ are the reason most people head to Africa and it’s certainly the jewel in Kenya’s crown.  With 95 species of mammals recorded on the reserve, your odds of ticking off four of the ‘Big Five’ are pretty high. We spend our first morning on a game walk along the edge of the Mara river. Early morning is one of the best times to spot wildlife and we’re sure to see some of the most interesting animals in the Mara Kingdom. After a hearty breakfast, we’ll head into the reserve on a game drive like no other. Enjoy a picnic lunch along one of the many tributaries of the Mara River. Head back to the lodge as the sun sets – a spectacle in its own right.
