As long as you have a sense of adventure and a passion for travel, there is no reason why you can’t trek mountain gorillas in Uganda or spend an evening sipping wine on a dhow off the coast of Zanzibar. Browse the destinations we know best and let us show you where we can take you next.

The DRC (formerly Zaire) is a powerful part of the RAW Africa Eco-Tours story. Having worked in wildlife conservation and tourism in this fascinating country since 2009, the DRC is particularly close to our heart. The oldest National Park in Africa, Virunga National Park is our base for trekking both chimpanzees and mountain gorillas as well as spending time at Senkwekwe Mountain Gorilla Orphanage and with the engaging Congo HoundsKahuzi Biega National Park across Lake Kivu is the only place in the world where you can trek to see eastern lowland gorillas and visit the inspiring Lwiro Chimpanzee Rescue Center. Want more adventure? An overnight stay on the crater rim of Nyiragongo Volcano is unforgettable. Taking some time to learn about the culture through its cloth, mask and carving traditions will cement DRC in your memories forever.

Ethiopia is known as the roof of Africa with little of its plateau falling under 1500m in altitude. This is a country of ever-changing landscapes and over 2000 years of ancient history and unchanged traditions. Explore the birth place of coffee, the head of the Blue Nile, the fascinating cultures of the Omo Valley, the ancient tombs of the Axumite empire, the castles of Gondar, the rock-hewn churches of Tigray and Lalibela, the volcanic landscape of the Danekil Depression and some of the rarest wildlife in Africa including the Ethiopian Wolf and the Gelada monkey. A visit to Ethiopia is like a journey back in time.

Looking for an adventure with a difference? Djibouti could be the tour for you. As one of the least visited countries in the world and one of the smallest nations on mainland Africa, Djibouti is a destination with a difference. Few places in the world can boast the varied landscapes and geological wonders of Djibouti. Located on the horn of Africa, Djibouti is home to the lowest point in Africa and one of the most inaccessible places on earth. Intrigued? Join us as we visit the salt lakes of Lac Assal and Lac Abbe, the lava tubes of Ardoukuba Volcano and the beautiful underwater coral reefs of the Red Sea and Moucha Island.

Have you been dreaming of Africa? Then you would have probably been dreaming of Kenya. Located in east Africa, Kenya is a country of tradition and culture and home to the Maasai and Samburu tribes. Then of course there is the wildlife with the magnificent herds of elephant in Tsavo and Amboseli National Parks, secretive leopards, cheetah and rare Grevy’s Zebra of Samburu Reserve and the famous lion prides and wildebeest migration of the Masai Mara. If you are after a bit of adventure then scaling the slopes of the second highest mountain in Africa, Mt Kenya, might be your thing. Kenya is the home of RAW Africa Eco-Tours and we’d love to show you around.

With its mysterious wildlife and fascinating traditions, a journey through Madagascar is an adventure away from the maddening crowds. From the ancient baobab trees of Morondava, the rainforests of Ranomafana, the rocky landscape of Isalo and the stunning beaches of Tulear, the landscape of Madagascar alone will enchant you. Then add the country’s unique wildlife with the cat like fossa, the incredible array of lemur and chameleon species and endemic birdlife in every national park for something really special. Embracing both its Asian and French history, Madagascar is home to delightful food, quaint architecture and some of the friendliest people in the world. One thing is certain, a single journey to Madagascar is never enough.

There is no doubt that Tanzania is the land of safaris and Swahili culture. Karibu Tena (you are welcome). The wildlife and landscapes of Tanzania will leave you in awe. With the endless plains of the Serengeti, the unforgettable Ngonrongoro Crater, stunning Tarengire National Park and quaint Lake Manyara, the options to see the wildlife of Tanzania are endless. This is also the home of the Jane Goodall Institute and one of our memorable conservation safaris to see the chimpanzees of Gombe Stream National Park and the Leakey digs of Ol Duvai Gorge. A journey to Tanzania would not be complete without visiting the spice island of Zanzibar with its weaving alleys and UNESCO protected architecture of Stonetown, middle eastern influenced food, sweeping white beaches and traditional dhows. Tanzania has it all.

Dubbed the Pearl of Africa, Uganda will surprise you at every turn. There is so much diversity to this central African country with beautiful landscapes, welcoming people and amazing wildlife. You can start your journey volunteering on the shores of Lake Victoria, at the Ugandan Wildlife Education and Conservation Center or Ngamba Chimpanzee island. With an abundance of wildlife areas, you can see pretty much everything including hippos, lions, giraffe, a plethora of primates and birdlife in Murchison Falls and Queen Elizabeth National Parks and of course mountain gorillas in Magahinga National Park and Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Understanding the communities who live alongside the wildlife is a big part of our journeys to Uganda and we take great pride in showing you how people and wildlife live together.

Rwanda is home to some of Africa’s most stunning landscapes and unique wildlife experiences. From searching for gorillas in the highlands, to trekking up the side of a volcano, from spotting chimpanzees in the wild to traipsing through sweeping plains and montane rainforests, Rwanda will leave you wanting more.

We partner with the Jane Goodall Institute Australia (JGIA) to take you into the heart of Rwanda for a wildlife safari in one of the most remarkable countries in the world.

You’ll come to catch a glimpse of the beautiful gorillas but there’s so much more to see and experience in Rwanda.
