15 Day Morocco Explored

Morocco is a fascinating Country. At the cross-roads between Africa and Europe, it is a melting pot of culture, religion, architecture, incredible landscapes and medieval history.
This 15-day journey will have you weaving your way through mud-brick forts of the Atlas mountain range, delving into the medieval medinas and crowded souks, exploring the Roman ruins of Volubilis, indulging in authentic Berber hospitality and delicious cuisine, discovering Morocco’s most lively cities, and wandering through narrow cobblestone streets and charming seaside villages. This trip through the heart of Morocco is full of breath-taking scenery and hidden gems. From bustling bazaars and the age-old remains of civilizations past, please do join us on this epic adventure to explore many of Morocco’s most spectacular sights.

TOUR ITINERARY

On arrival, we will meet you at Casablanca International Airport and transfer you to your accommodation. There is time to settle in and relax before our get-together this evening, where we discuss our exciting adventure ahead, and enjoy our first delicious Moroccan dinner together.

Accommodation: Local Hotel, Casablanca

After breakfast we will enjoy a guided tour of Hassan II Mosque, Casablanca and uncover the history and religion of this mesmerizing area, as well as tales of Morocco’s royal family. Next, we will travel on to Rabat, where a vibrant history meets with modern-day Moroccan culture. We will experience the archaeological site of Kasbah des Oudayas- a 12th-century fortress and UNESCO World Heritage Site. We will finish our day in the charming coastal town of Asilah.

Asilah is a tranquil town on Morocco’s Northern Atlantic coast. Its old town, or medina, is enclosed by well-preserved 15th-century ramparts and gates and is an art hub that is well renowned for its beautiful murals. Next, we journey on to Cap Spartel. This is where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Mediterranean Sea. We will then turn inland and wind our way through mountains and valleys until we reach the charming town of Chefchaouen.

Located in the Rif Mountains, this stunning town was originally built as a fortress in the 15th Century. It’s known for the striking, blue-washed buildings, and the very peaceful vibe that engulfs the region. The octagonal minaret of the Great Mosque rises nearby. We also visit the Cascades d’Akchour today. These are a series of waterfalls set among amazing scenery. Relax in the beauty, sip a peppermint tea or feast on a local tagine while dipping your feet in the fresh clear water.

After breakfast we will depart Chefchaouen and journey on to the imperial city of Meknes. Meknes is home to the world’s most impressive door- the Bab Monsour Gate. It is so grand that it has now been deemed a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We will also visit some of Morocco’s best-preserved Roman ruins- Volubilis.

We journey onto the mystical city of Fes in time for dinner.
Fes is a UNESCO world heritage site, and home to the oldest and largest medina in North Africa! Fes was once the capital of Morocco and is still widely viewed as the cultural epicentre of the country.

Fes is the oldest of Morocco’s imperial cities and is often referred to as the country’s cultural capital. This magical City is well known for its Fes El Bali walled medina, with medieval Marinid architecture, vibrant souks, and old-world atmosphere. During our guided tour we will see Fes Palace and the great library. The iconic leather tannery is also a remarkable sight! We will view the oldest university in the world as we wander narrow, winding labyrinths of alleyways lined with stall after stall of local artisans purveying their carpets, colourful pottery, leather goods and much more.

Today we embark on a journey up into the high plains between the Middle Atlas and High Atlas Mountain ranges.
We will pass through many quaint Berber villages before arriving at our Guest House in the picturesque town of Midelt, in central Morocco.
This afternoon we can take the opportunity to relax and enjoy a swim at our riad or explore the town.

As we continue our journey south, we’ll witness the breath-taking views of the eastern High Atlas. The Dadès Valley, also known as ‘The Valley of One Thousand Kasbahs’, is the most distinguished of the oasis valleys that dominate southern Morocco. Over thousands of years the melting snow, originating from the High Atlas Mountains, has flowed into the River Dadès then cut a steep gorge, known as the Dadès Gorge. This has subsequently created some thrilling scenery and a world-famous drive. Offering spectacular views with snow-capped mountains on one side and semi-desert on the other, this is a road trip that you won’t forget. We cruise around dramatic rock formations and hairpin corners, as you witness nature in all its roughness and beauty.

Today, we travel the short distance to Ouarzazate on the great oasis valley route. The land is largely arid, but every so often we will witness bursts of fertility- large areas of date palms encircled by crumbling mud-brick walls, imposing and fortified villages that remain unchanged in their rugged appearance for centuries. We will stay just outside of Ouarzazate in the charming village of Tamdakht.

Tonight, we will be entertained by traditional music while enjoying our evening meal.

Today we set off to explore the beautifully preserved and truly inspiring Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddu.
We have the opportunity to climb up through the winding alleyways to the viewpoint at the top, visit a traditional home, sample local food and enjoy a pot of local tea.
This afternoon we will learn the fine technique of cooking some local delicacies during a Moroccan cooking class.
There are also various local markets full of bargaining and bustle to enjoy.

After breakfast we depart to the welcoming market town of Taroudant, in the Sous Valley. Taroudant is famous for its beautiful weaving and the home of the Argan tree, which only grows in this area of Morocco and is the centre for Argan Oil production.

After breakfast we embark on our journey to the stunning beachside town of Essaouira.
Located on Morocco’s Atlantic coast this vibrant and charming port town is full of maze-like streets and adorned with Portuguese, French and Berber architecture.
Upon arrival we will explore the City by foot.

This evening we enjoy another Moroccan meal before retreating to our seaside Riad.

Accommodation: Local Guest House (Riad), Essaouira

After breakfast we depart Essaouira and drive just 2 hours to the travel mecca of Marrakech (or Marrakesh). It’s one of the four Imperial Cities of Morocco and is also home to numerous mosques, palaces and gardens. The medina is a densely packed, walled medieval city dating to the Berber Empire, with maze-like alleys where thriving souks sell spices, traditional textiles, pottery, leather, jewellery and more. We will take a guided tour to the main square of Jemaa el-Fnaa, including the Koutoubia Mosque. 

In the evening, enjoy a traditional Marrakech meal.

Today we are able to enjoy everything that Marrakech has to offer, as well as some indulgences- including a traditional Hamman steam bath, specialty massages and shopping in the souks.

This evening we gather for our final dinner together as a group, and feast on some wonderful Moroccan delicacies.

By the time you retreat to your Riad, I’m sure you will agree that Marrakech has a certain buzz that is unforgettable!

Today completes our journey through this spectacular Northern African country as we say farewell to Morocco. We will transport you to Marrakech Airport in time for your departure and safe onward travel.

If you need to get a transfer to Casablanca Airport instead, please allow an additional 3 hours for the journey.
