Ethiopia = Unearthed

There’s something about Ethiopia that makes the heart sing. And that’s all thanks to the rich culture, the fascinating people and their proud traditions. A plethora of fascinating tribes provide the tapestry of this enthralling nation, most of whom have managed to survive with their rituals and customs in tact, despite an ever changing world.

And don’t be fooled into thinking the wildlife is second best. From the rarely seen Ethiopian wolf to the gelada monkeys and endless birds, there’s plenty to feed the senses in this beautiful country.

CONSERVATION

At RAW Africa Eco-Tours, we are serious about supporting local communities and their conservation efforts. By joining us on an Ethiopian tour you will be helping conservation by:

A portion of all tour payments to RAW Africa Eco-Tours is passed on to one of the conservation organisations relevant to the places we visit and the people we meet. In Ethiopia we support the Ethiopian Wolf Conservation Programme.

We hire a local guide from the guiding co-operative in each region when we visit Ethiopia. This creates employment and provides tourism experience in local communities. We choose activities where the payment stays in the nearby area and we even take our coffee breaks at women-owned coffee stands. These actions ensure that the majority of our tourism $$ remains local.

On every RAW Africa Eco-Tours journey we ask you to do one small thing that will make a difference to wildlife. In Ethiopia we ask you to say “no” to plastic bags, which can have a devastating impact on agriculture and waterways, and to purchase a beautiful cloth bag from Salem’s Women Co-operative in Addis Ababa.
