We’ll also visit an Ari village, where we’ll gain a deeper understanding of the Ari people, the biggest group in the Omo region.</p><p class="p1"><b>Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner</b></p><p class="p1"><b>Accommodation: Guest House</b></p></div>

We’ll start the day with a visit to one of Ethiopia’s most fascinating tribes, the Mursi. Famous for their lip plates, they still adhere to their traditional and unique culture and are one of the last remaining tribes in Africa to still wear traditional dress and accessories. Turmi is also famously known for its weekly market, so in the afternoon we’ll take in the bustling atmosphere and peruse the huge variety of stores, selling everything from vegetables, spices, butter and milk to more traditional items like incised calabashes, head stools and metal arm bracelets.</p><p class="p1"><b>Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner</b></p><p class="p1"><b>Accommodation: Guest House</b></p></div>

The valley itself is fed by the Omo River and along the river hundreds of small tribal villages pepper the landscape, each of them with their unique customs and even their own language. The Karo tribe are known for their chalk body painting for celebrations, whereas the Dassanetch tribe speak a completely different language and are the only Kushite-speaking group of the Omo Valley.</p><p class="p1"><b>Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner</b></p><p class="p1"><b>Accommodation: Guest House</b></p></div>

We will observe the rituals, and taste the delights, of this finely tuned custom. Next, we enjoy a guided walk through the bustling market of Shalo. We will learn about the spices that make Ethiopian food so unique, and enjoy the hustle as the locals do their shopping. In the afternoon we visit the Ethiopian National Museum and meet ‘Lucy’ &#8211; an early human ancestor dating back 3.2 million years. Finally, we drop into the Salem’s Women Co-operative to watch as traditional handicrafts are made. Some of the churches are carved directly out of the cliff face while others are built into caves along rock ledges. We’ll visit the incredible Stele field with its mysterious tomb markers and historical museum. The monumental stele, dating from around 2000BC, dominate the town and are thought to be “markers” for underground burial chambers.<br />We will also visit the original palace of the Queen of Sheba as well as the famous Kings tombs. At 220 km2, this is the largest national park in Ethiopia. Located in the North Gondar Zone of the Amhara Region, its territory covers the highest parts of the Simien Mountains and includes Ras Dashan, the highest point in Ethiopia. The City of Gondar was the seat of Ethiopian rulers from the 16th century.
